There’s simply been too much rain this week to have the first session.  Weather permitting we’ll have the next session on Jan. 30 at 10:00a at Congress Springs.

Just so everyone knows here’s the approximate schedule for the upcoming season.  For those new to Saratoga Pony we try to have 2-3 session of what we call Spring Training.  There are large practices with all the incoming players, run by the coaches.  Its used for the players to get in shape for the season and for the coaches to evaluate the players.  Ideally we have three sessions, but given the time of year there’s always one that’s rained out.  The schedule for January and February is:

• Monday, Jan. 12 – Board Meeting. Open to whoever wants to attend.   Contact Russ Castronovo (408/391-9632) if you’re interested in getting involved with the board.
• Saturday, Jan. 23 – 10a-12p – Spring training session #1 at Congress Springs.  This is the most important session to attend as we’ll use it to explain the process for verifying addresses.
• Saturday, Jan. 30 – 10a-12p – Spring training session #2 at Congress Springs.
• Saturday, Feb. 6 – 10a-12p – Spring training session #3 at Congress Springs.
• Tuesday, Feb. 9 – Player draft with managers and coaches.
• Saturday, Feb. 20 – Practices Start.

The season will start some time in March, probably around the weekend of the 20th.

Starting on November 2, we’ll be taking sign-ups for the 2010 Pony (13 and 14 year old) Season.  We’re planning on having three teams this year.  However, we’re only going to have 12 players per team.  Any players that sign up after the first 36 will be put on a waiting list.  With more than 26 players eligible to return from last season, the spaces will go quickly.

The registration fees go up on December 20, 2009 so get your forms in early.

For those who haven’t participated in Pony Baseball in Saratoga Before, here’s our rough timeline.  We’ll be accepting registrations via mail and in person till we get to our maximum number of players.  In January or February we’ll start three weekends of “Spring Training.” These sessions, which last about 2 hours are to get the players ready for the start of the season and give the managers a chance to evaluate the players.  We’ll select teams and start practicing in February with the league starting in March.

For the Colt and Palomino levels we’ll be extending sign-ups through March.  Stay tuned for more information on Colt and Palomino.
